Prototype Club Box 01
This is part of a series of posts covering the contents of each Prototype Club box dating back to November 2022. An overview of the thinking and circumstances around each prototype hot sauce.
NOT THE FIRST TIME EVERYTHING WENT WRONG WHEN WHISKY WAS INVOLVED
Glenlivet got in touch and asked if we would like to make a hot sauce for them using their whisky. We sent them examples of our sauces which they reviewed. Then they sent us whisky. We got down to business in the kitchen to see how we could use their whisky of choice to create some summer vibes.
And then everything went wrong. Really wrong. And it was all out of our control.
We didn’t know if we’d have our new sauce lab in time. And it turned out that we were right to be twitchy about that. So, we didn’t know if we’d be able to make the sauce at all because of all the uncertainty with getting moved to the new place. We reluctantly withdrew from the agreement at the time.
We still went on to make the prototype anyway. This became sauce 01 of box 01, leading the way for prototype club into the future.

BUY ICE CREAM 2022
Our “dessert sauce gone wrong” concept back for its third year. BUY ICE CREAM feels right at home in Prototype Club. Over time, it will go on to be primarily delivered through the club.
2022 was about black forest flavours. Tart cherry gave way to soothing chocolate. Sounds lush. But lurking in there were the most amount of Moruga Scorpion chillies that we’d ever put in a sauce.
Oh and we made our own chocolate for this too. No shortcuts.

THESE APRICOTS ARE BORN TO DIE
Apricots had been on our hit list since the beginning. Because they’re absolutely delicious. This was our first prototype using them. And because of that, we really didn’t want to lose the flavour by over processing it. We were testing how the flavour stood up to ghost chillies. To keep the flavour as pure as we could, we had to make sure we didn’t process the hell out of it. And stand up to those ferocious bullies they did! A lovely sweetness and full flavour shone through before those ghosts came to play.Heat: 3/5
